Bong County Health Team (BCHT) Administrator Sam Siakor has described

the launch of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in the county as “one of the most decisive public health interventions over the years.

Siakor said the campaign represents a major push to protect young girls from the growing threat of cervical cancer.

Authorities at the Ministry of Health, working through the BCHT want to ensure that the county aligns with global standards in preventing cervical cancer, a disease that continues to claim the lives of women at an alarming rate across the world.

The official launch brought together health authorities, local leaders, parents, educators and students, all of whom demonstrated overwhelming support for the countywide vaccination exercise.

With this enthusiasm, Siakor said, it shows unity as a powerful sign that communities are ready to prioritize the health and future of young girls.

The HPV vaccine will be administered to girls between the ages of nine and 18 throughout the county.

The team has already deployed trained personnel to schools, communities and health facilities to ensure smooth and effective rollout.

“This is not just another health activity. This is a lifesaving prevention measure, and we want every eligible girl to receive it.”

He highlighted the seriousness of cervical cancer, which Siakor described as “one of the leading causes of cancer related deaths among women globally.”

Meanwhile, parents and guardians have been encouraged to cooperate by allowing their daughters to take the vaccine.

The vaccine has been tested, proven safe, and widely used around the world.

The exercise is “completely free of charge,” and it will remain available throughout the vaccination campaign.
