Bassa Lawmaker Advocates For Increment In LDEA Budget

Grand Bassa County Electoral District#5 Representative, Thomas Goshua is calling for increment in the budget of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA). The Grand Bassa County lawmaker added that it is vital for his fellow lawmakers to see reason to increase the budget of the LDEA. According to him, if the budget of the LDEA is increase, the institution will be more effective in fighting narcotic drugs throughout the Country. Representative Goshua voiced out that the narcotic drugs gradually taking over the country. The Alternative National Congress (AN) lawmaker stated that it is very impossible for the LDEA to fight drugs with limited budgetary support. The lawmaker made the statement of Tuesday September 3, 2024 during his appearance on the OK FM Morning Rush show in Monrovia. The Bassa lawmaker emphasized that there is a need for the LDEA budget be increase in order to enable the men proactive in the discharge of their duties. Representative Goshua stated that thousands of young people are gradually going will-wall in the country as the result of the influence of narcotic drugs in the country. “This issue of the huge influence of drugs in the country needs to be fight to the letter by all well-meaning Liberians”, asserted Rep. Goshua. The Bassa Lawmaker stated that the issue of drugs is a National emergency and it need to be eradicated out of Liberia. Representative Goshua reintegrated that the young people who are the future leaders of the country are getting out of hands as the result deadly narcotic drugs they are taking in. according to him, this issue of fighting drugs out of Liberia require the collective efforts of every Liberians.  The lawmaker told the public that he is a vital of the situation; he explained that he had a son who graduated from the Salvation Army School who got into taking in drugs. Representative Goshua further that it was by the grace of the Almighty God he was able to take his son at the rehabilitation center and today he is doing well. The lawmaker during the 54th National Legislature led a campaign by sponsoring a bill for making the drugs law non billable offense. Representative Goshua is on record for speaking against the influence of drugs in the country. The lawmaker since he started these Anti-drugs campaign had not rest. Touching on the issue of the alteration of the budget by some lawmakers criminally needs to be investigated to the letter.  The lawmaker further that this issue of the alteration of the budget poses credibility problem on them as lawmakers, adding, he said this matter is serious and he is not taking it for joke. “I want for the committee to come out with the report so they can know those lawmakers who are involved in the act. The Bassa lawmaker has threatened to go public by naming and shaming those lawmakers involved in the act.  He expressed concerned what is President Joseph N. Boakai is delaying to release the LDEA report conducted by the Ministry of Justice involving Abraham Kromah and his two deputies. According to him, it is important for the President office to release the report.
