A bridge crisis has hit Barrobo, Maryland County, after a wooden structure linking the district to Karluway collapsed most recently.

The bridge, constructed by District 3 Representative- Austin B. Taylor in 2024 as a temporary fix, gave way under a truck hauling crushed rocks for the Barrobo City Hall project. The original bridge was swept away by floods in July 2024, prompting Rep. Taylor’s intervention.

The temporary bridge, valued at $6,000, was meant to provide interim relief. Residents are now calling for swift action to restore access, as the collapse has disrupted transportation. The Ministry of Public Works hasn’t commented officially on the incident.

Some residents have pointed fingers at Maryland County Superintendent Henry Cole, alleging his involvement with the truck. However, Cole denied this, stating the truck belonged to contractors working on the City Hall project.

In a Facebook statement, Rep. Taylor explained the bridge was always meant to be temporary and emphasized that infrastructure development is the government’s responsibility. He reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for District #3’s development and announced plans to start building a concrete bridge in the upcoming weeks.
