In a bold move to improve waste management and public hygiene, the Mayor of Barclayville City, Comfort Nimely-Bloh, has invested over US$8,500 in sanitation equipment, including a state-of-the-art garbage tricycle, trash bins, and protective gear for workers.

The initiative is part of her administration’s commitment to creating a cleaner, healthier, and more livable city for residents.

The investment features a new garbage collection tricycle valued at US$3,600, five trash bins at US$125 each, and essential tools such as cutlasses, rain boots, and protective jackets for the seventeen sanitation workers responsible for maintaining city cleanliness.

Speaking on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, Mayor Nimely-Bloh noted that the funding for the project was secured through sustained lobbying efforts with national government officials and development partners.

She stressed that the move is intended to tackle long-standing challenges caused by inadequate sanitation equipment, which has hampered the efficiency of the Barclayville City Corporation.

“This equipment will significantly improve garbage collection and ensure our sanitation workers can operate safely and efficiently,” Mayor Nimely-Bloh said, urging residents to actively participate in keeping the city clean.

The mayor also disclosed that the city spends roughly LRD 8,500 monthly to compensate the sanitation workforce, underlining the administration’s ongoing commitment to public service despite budgetary constraints.

Sanitation workers welcomed the new equipment, praising the mayor for her efforts to enhance working conditions and strengthen the municipality’s waste management systems.

Residents were similarly encouraged to support sanitation initiatives to ensure the city remains clean and healthy for all.
