Back Lead Emma Glassco Files US$10M Lawsuit Against Gov’t at ECOWAS Court

Former Director-General of Liberia’s National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), Emma Metieh Glassco, has filed a lawsuit against the Liberian government at the Community Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS Court).

The case, registered under suit number ECW/CCJ/APP/19/25, was officially filed recently at the court in Abuja, Nigeria.

Glassco is suing the Liberian government for allegedly violating her fundamental human rights, specifically her right to due process and an independent and fair trial.

As part of the lawsuit, she is seeking US$10 million in reputational damages, arguing that she has been subjected to an unjust process that has harmed her professional and personal reputation.

She is being represented by former Associate Justice Cllr. Kabineh M. Ja’neh. The lawsuit references multiple legal instruments, including the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Liberian Constitution.

The ECOWAS Court is expected to schedule an initial hearing in the coming weeks.

The Liberian government has yet to issue an official statement regarding the lawsuit. However, sources indicate that legal advisors are assessing the case before making a formal response.
