The Chief Executive Officer of Menina Resorts, William F. Kotee Jr., has called for increased empowerment and support for nurses and midwives across Liberia, describing them as the foundation upon which the nation’s future is built.
Serving as Guest Speaker during the International Nurses and Midwifery Week celebration at the Jackson F. Doe Memorial Regional Referral Hospital in Tappita, Nimba County, Kotee praised the dedication and sacrifice of healthcare workers who continue to save lives under challenging conditions.
Speaking under the theme, “Our Nurses, Our Future: Empowered Nurses and Midwives Save Lives,” he stressed that nurses and midwives are not merely hospital employees but key pillars of Liberia’s healthcare system.
According to him, the Jackson F. Doe Memorial Regional Referral Hospital remains a major referral center for patients from across southeastern Liberia and neighboring countries—thanks to the professionalism and commitment of its healthcare workers.
He further highlighted the country’s persistently high maternal mortality rate, describing it as a national concern that demands urgent investment in skilled medical personnel.
“Empowering nurses and midwives through education, better staffing, improved working conditions, and greater respect will significantly improve healthcare delivery and save lives,” Kotee asserted.
Addressing the nurses and midwives directly, he encouraged them to carry themselves with pride and purpose as they continue serving humanity.
“You are the heartbeat of Nimba. You are the pride of Liberia. And because you are empowered, our nation will live,” he concluded.
As a token of appreciation, Kotee presented 25,000 Liberian Dollars to the nurses in celebration of the occasion.
The event brought together healthcare professionals, administrators, and stakeholders to honor the contributions of nurses and midwives to Liberia’s healthcare sector.
