Assets Recovery Taskforce In Trouble

“The sleeping dog will not lie.” With those words, the Chief Executive Officer of MDMC Express, Incorporated, John S. Youboty, has threatened legal action against the Assets Recovery Taskforce.

Youboty described his arrest as “dubious, targeted and unlawful.”

‎‎The company’s management has condemned “unprovoked and reckless armed raid,” carried out in the early hours of Friday, November 7, 2025, allegedly involving elements of the Liberia National Police (LNP).

The raid at Youboty’s residence led to his detention at the Monrovia Central Prison; an incident the company says represents a “grave abuse of power, and a blow to investor confidence in the country.”

‎‎Contract Dispute at the Core:

‎MDMC insists the raid is rooted in a contractual disagreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).

‎In 2023, MDMC signed two contracts worth US$1.9 million, funded by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to renovate several floors of MOFA’s headquarters, and install three elevators.

‎The company says it completed all works, including warranty obligations, but MoFA failed to pay US$526,870.24 for additional change orders requested outside the original contract.

‎Ignored Legal Advice:

MDMC highlights that the Ministry of Justice had previously advised MoFA to settle outstanding payments and conduct a technical review.

‎Instead, the company alleges, MoFA disregarded the legal opinion, and resorted to coercive measures, culminating in Youboty’s arrest.

‎Reputation and Investor Confidence:

‎MDMC accuses the Assets Recovery Taskforce of fabricating falsehoods, overstepping its mandate, and engaging in a “witch hunt.”

‎The company warns that such actions undermine justice system, and discourage foreign investment.

‎Call for Justice

‎MDMC vows to pursue legal remedies, holding accountable those it says inflicted reputational and psychological harm on the company and its CEO.

‎The management frames the arrest as politically motivated, stressing that completed renovation works were performed in full compliance with contractual obligations.

‎Mr. Youboty’s arrest has sparked a corporate backlash, with MDMC Express, Inc. denouncing the raid as unlawful and pledging to fight back through the courts.

At the heart of the dispute lies unpaid contractual obligations for renovation work at the MoFA.

MDMC, meanwhile, warned that the incident is not only a personal attack on its CEO, but a dangerous precedent for the country business climate.
