President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has called for an emergency meeting with the leadership of the 55th Legislature following a border incident involving Guinean soldiers at the Sorlumba Border Point in Foya District, Lofa County.
The emergency engagement, scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, 2026, aimed at bringing together key legislative leaders to address the developing situation and review Liberia’s response to the reported actions by Guinean security forces along the Liberia–Guinea border.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richard Nagbe Koon, led the leadership of the First Branch of Government, while Vice President Jeremiah Kounge headed the Senate delegation to the meeting.
The decision followed reports that Guinean soldiers briefly raised tensions early Tuesday, March 10, 2026 after crossing the Makona River and hoisted Guinean national flag at the Sorlumba Port of Entry. According to local sources, the soldiers reportedly entered the area to halt sand-mining operations being carried out by BK Enterprise Inc., claiming that the section of the Makona River where the activity was taking place falls within Guinean territory. The soldiers reportedly seized equipment belonging to the company and ordered the suspension of the mining activities.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has already scheduled a meeting with Liberia’s Joint Security apparatus today, Thursday, March 12, 2026, to further discuss the incident and explore possible diplomatic and security measures to address the matter.
Authorities said the government is closely monitoring the situation and remains committed to resolving the issue through peaceful and diplomatic channels while safeguarding Liberia’s territorial integrity.
