Liberia’s Ambassador-at-large for youth and sports development, Alioune Kebe, put smiles on the faces of the country’s Oldtimers National Sports Association (LONA)
when he donated sets of sporting materials, including 20 footballs to the members.
The donation was in continuation of Amb. Kebe’s empowerment drive across different sporting sectors in the country. It is in fulfillment of a commitment made to that sporting body following series of discussions.
While presenting the original 20 footballs to LONA over the weekend, Amb. Kebe said it was another way in which his office can improve the sector before attending to other key categories, including the Liberia Oldtimers National Association (LONA).
Kebe’s gesture is just a start for LONA as he hopes to continue the collaboration, and to make future interventions in other strategic areas in LONA.
He meanwhile, thanked the Chief Patron of Sports, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, for affording him the opportunity to serve in said key role.
He also appreciated Youth and Sports Minister, Cole Bangalu for his support and collaboration to the process.
Mr. Bangalu, who received the footballs for onward presentation to LONA, thanked Amb. Kebe for always thinking about ways and means to help support the sector.
LONA’s vice president Paul Romeo David, re-echoed Mr. Bangalu’s statement, but termed Amb. Kebe’s gesture as ‘timely and significant to the LONA.’
Mr. David said, since LONA’s establishment in 1992, it is only the government of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai that has included them into the national budget.
As part of LONA’s development plan, the construction of a gym for its members for additional fitness and exercising purposes are underway.
David said, with their budget, they have planned to purchase a land to construct the project ‘very soon.’
