The Liberia National Police (LNP), through the Joint Security in Nimba County, has arrested twenty-three (23) persons in connection with the alleged illegal possession and discharge of firearms in communities within the Tappita District.
The arrests followed complaints from residents of New Toe’s Town and Unification Town, who reported that a group of men had allegedly been seen in nearby bushes discharging single-barrel guns, killing cattle, and taking away belongings from community members.
Based on the complaints, the Joint Security convened a meeting and resolved to immediately conduct a fact-finding operation in the affected areas.
During the operation, security personnel moved into the communities and successfully apprehended twenty-three suspects believed to be connected to the reported incidents. The Joint Security also recovered several items including ten (10) single-barrel guns, eight (8) cutlasses, and five (5) empty gun shells believed to have been used in the alleged activities.
All suspects are currently in police custody undergoing investigation, while efforts continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the matter.
The Liberia National Police has assured residents of Tappita District and surrounding communities that it remains committed to maintaining peace, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that anyone found in violation of the law is brought to justice.
The LNP has encouraged citizens to continue cooperating with security authorities by reporting suspicious activities in their communities.
