“All Liberia Presidents’ Day.” Coming

With the overwhelming holidays already in the country, the House of Representatives (HoR) is said to be reviewing a bill seeking to establish a new national holiday titled: “All Liberia Presidents’ Day.”

The day is to honor the collective leadership and legacy of all the country’s former Presidents.

The proposed legislation, submitted by Montserrado County Electoral District #16 Representative, Dixon W. Seboe, is titled: “An Act to Create All Liberia Presidents’ Day.”

The bill was presented during the House’s regular session Thursday, June 5, 2025, for consideration and further legislative action.

In his submission, Seboe emphasized that Liberia has had 25 presidents, each of whom served during unique historical periods and made various contributions to the nation’s development.

Despite this, only two former presidents, Joseph Jenkins Roberts (March 15) and William V.S. Tubman (November 29), are officially honored with national holidays recognizing their birthdays.

“Considering the fact that each president has done something worth commendation, this act seeks to grant a single day to celebrate all our presidents as a national holiday, to reflect on their leadership, challenges, and achievements in shaping the country’s past and present.” Seboe said.

Following the reading of the bill, a motion was made and passed to forward it to the Committees on Good Governance, Internal Affairs, and Judiciary for proper scrutiny and review.

The committees are expected to report back to plenary with recommendations.

If passed into law, “All Liberia Presidents’ Day” will become a new public holiday dedicated to national reflection and the acknowledgment of the country’s leadership journey.
