AFL Arrests ‘Illegal Miners’

The “illegal miners” were arrested in the northern section of Sapo National Park, Grand Gedeh County.

Soldiers from the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), in collaboration with rangers from the Forestry Development Authority (FDA), has arrested eleven individuals for illegal mining.

The operation, according to report, took place late on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to protect the natural resources.

Second Sergeant Lincoln Abraham said, the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated security operation, and will be turned over to the court for prosecution.

Meanwhile, Chief Park Warden John Smith, has urged the public to remain calm and cooperative. Smith assured that authorities are “actively enforcing regulations within the park.”

The government continues to intensify actions against illegal mining in Sapo National Park to preserve its biodiversity and natural heritage.
