AFELL To Host National Convention By Yassah J. Wright

Members of the Association of Female Lawyers of Liberia (AFELL) will on Friday, April 25, 2025, go to the poll to elect a new corps of officers to steer the affairs of the institution in the coming years.

The election will coincide with the institution’s national convention that is expected to draw together female lawyers, magistrates, judges and all females in the legal profession.

The AFELL convention will also host females serving on the Supreme Court Bench, where Chief Justice Sie-Nye is expected to deliver a key note address.

Eight persons have been declared qualified to compete for various leadership positions.

Counselor Philomena William is seeking the presidency, while Counselor Bowoulo Taylor-Kelley is contesting for the post of First Vice Presidency.

Others are: Counselor Evelyn Lah-Gongloe, Second Vice President, while the secretary general post is contested for by Cllr. Sundaiway Amagashie and Attorney Christine Dono.

There is no candidate for the Assistant Secretary General. Counselor Isabel Diggs is for Treasurer, while there is also no aspirant for financial secretary, Cllr. Tonieh Tarlery is contesting for Chaplain.

As it stands, it appears most of the candidates will be elected by their colleagues on ‘white ballots,’ as they go unopposed.

The national convention and election of the organization’s new leadership is going to be a major turning point for AFELL.

AFELL has been in the business of providing different pro-bono (free) legal services for women who are reportedly the victims of different crimes including gender-based violence.
