The Female Lawyers Association of Liberia (AFELL) has presented a lifetime honor to Chief Justice Sie-Nye Yuoh for services to the judiciary and the legal profession over the years.
The honor came as Madam Yuoh prepares to step down as Chief Justice in June due to age limit for service in line with the constitution.
AFELL presented the Life Time Achievement Award to Justice Yuoh, sending an extremely strong signal of the gratitude to the Chief Justice from her legal colleagues.
The group said the honor was also intended to recognize Chief Justice Yuoh for the ‘tremendous sacrifices’ she has made and continues to make for AFELL.
It says Justice Yuoh as a founding member of AFELL, continues to work with the association’s leadership in promoting women in the legal profession as well as advancing advocacy for the protection of women’s rights.
Justice Sie-Nye Yuoh, meanwhile, extended gratitude to the organization for the honor bestowed upon her.
She recalled how AFELL was formed when former Chief Justice Gloria Musu Scott started the conversation with her about the group.
Since that time, she said AFELL continues to make significant impact on the lives of women and children who are the most vulnerable in society.
She called on the members to keep advancing, adding: “By doing so, will assist the female lawyers in the discharge of their functions.”
Justice Yuoh urged her colleagues (female lawyers) to match their words with action, utilizing the law as their professional tool.
Honored alongside the Chief Justice was one of the female lawyers, Evelyn Lah-Gongloe, who was recognized for her ‘contribution’ to AFELL.
Cllr. Lah-Gongloe serves as AFELL’s Vice President, has been instrumental in ensuring the improvement of the association.
Through her, AFELL has gained huge recognition nationally and internationally for its strong advocacy for women’s rights as well as children.
The institution, has over the years, provided and continues to provide pro bono legal services to vulnerable women who are mostly victims of different gender-based violence.
