The Liberia Airport Authority (LAA) has welcomed a high-level delegation consisting of representatives from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Western and Central African Office (WACAF), and the Banjul Accord Group Aviation Safety Oversight Organization (BAGASOO).
The visit marks a significant step towards enhancing aviation safety and regulatory compliance within Liberia’s airspace.
The foreign delegates comprised of Mr. Manzi Nika Mehieza, Deputy Regional Director of ICAO; Mr. Alexandre Damiba, Director of Program at the African Flight Procedure Programme (AFPP); Sandrine Gnassou, Regional Communications, Navigation and Surveillance Expert(CNS); and Dr. Oche Victor-Elias, Regional Technical Coordinator, Air Navigation Service at BAGASOO.
During a meeting held at the Roberts International Airport (RIA) on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, LAA’s Managing Director, Hon. Jero H. Mends-Cole emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing pressing aviation safety concerns.
Mr. Manzi Nika Mehieza, Deputy Regional Director of ICAO lauded the LAA’s renewed commitment to reform and called for a unified and transparent effort.
The discussions centered on tackling the significant safety concerns flagged during the 2022 ICAO audit conducted in Liberia.
Further talks are expected to pave the way for enhanced safety measures in Liberia, ensuring that the nation adheres to global aviation standards and contributes to regional air travel safety.
The LAA’s Deputy Managing Director for Technical Services, Hon. Jonathan C. Enders led the delegates to tour the airside of the RIA.
