“A Wide Contradiction” Rep. Kamara Describes Boakai’s ‘No Business As Usual’ Statement By: Julius Konton

Montserrado County District Fifteen Representative, Abu Kamara, has termed as wide contraction, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s statement that his government will not do business as usual.  Representative Kamara speaking to journalists in Monrovia said the presentation of the draft national budget to the chief Clerk by the Executive headed by President Boakai is a clear indication that the President is allegedly not living up to his commitment and promise to the Liberian people by upholding the rule of law and protecting the Constitution of the country.  According to him, the process of submitting   the draft budget to the Chief Clerk while there is a legal Speaker is a fraudulent act and a complete alleged error on the part of the Executive.  He reechoed that he did not  support, neither welcome such presentation of the draft budget wondering how did the budget come, who exactly brought it to the National Legislature and to whom was it given including who exactly will sit and discuss the issue or the instrument respectively. Making reference to the ongoing impasse at the House of Representatives, the District Number Fifteen lawmaker maintained that Speaker Jonathan Fonati Koffa will not resign. He told reporters that the issue now is not a speaker case, but the Liberian people’s issue. “I see this as a Liberian thing, we need to respect t the law,” he re-emphasized.  Representative Kamara further indicated that gone are the days where people will keep tampering with the laws of the country and others will hail them. According to him, the current political battle on Capitol Hill, if not handled or addressed properly, will continue in other manner and form up to 2029. ” I stand with the law and I tried to intervene but to no avail, our people are watching us and we need to do the right thing, “, he cautioned his colleagues.  The opposition lawmaker stressed that the best way is for the two parties to work together and do the Liberian people’s work. The current political hullabaloo, according to pundits, appears to be nearing completion especially with the submission of the draft budget to one of the groups which may signify that it is the said body that the  Executive will work with going forward while others see this far from over, judging from the point that the Speaker and his supporters continue to maintain that he Speaker Koffa will not resign.  Their focus, among other things, is the respect and protection of the law which they all committed to before taking office. As the drama continues, the Liberian people are observing keenly and will be the best judge in the wake of cheers, support, claims and counter claims as well as agreements to disagreements from all sides of the divide.
