Authorities at the Ministry of Labour, has with immediate effect, revoked the work permits of four Chinese nationals.
The actions came against the backgrounds that the four affected men “violated Liberia Labour Law.”
Prior to the Ministry’s decision, the Chinese had worked for Bangli, an iron ore mining company operating in Bong Mines, Bong County.
They Chinese were caught in the act of performing carpentry work on a makeshift structure at the entrance of the company facility on Friday, November 14, 2025.
Labour Minister Cooper W. Kruah, announced the decision affecting the Chinese while visiting the company’s facility.
Kruah’s visit followed a recent strike action by Liberian employees.
The strike was held in the first week of November, 2025.
Kruah, who led a team of inspectors and officials was ‘shocked’ when he saw for himself the four Chinese men at work without obtained permits.
Mr. Kruah, a lawyer by profession, immediately mandated labour inspectors to get the Chinese details.
While in the process, he subsequently announced the revocation of their work permits.
Those affected Chinese were named as Li Shuat Hua, Zhang Hong Wei, and Zhang Wei Chai, and another, who fled the scene.
They formally received their letters of revocation on Monday, November 17,2025, from the Ministry in Monrovia.
Mr. Kruah in an open- door meeting with executives of Bangli, urged the management to account for the escaped Chinese employee, and file his name with the Ministry to receive his letter.
Mr. Kruah warned that failure on the part of the company will suppose it is harboring foreign nationals working without proper documents, including work permits.
Mr. Kruah however, admonished Bangli’s management of how President Joseph Nyuma Boakai is pleased to see foreign companies operate in the country, but that the President envisages respect for the Labour Laws as well as encouraged transparency, accountability and dignity for labour.
Bangli General Manager, Lyu Wen Yin, thanked Mr. Kruah and delegation for the visit. He promised to cooperate with the mandate of the Minister to forward the name of the escaped Chinese employee.
Bangli has employed 161 Liberians and 53 Chinese.
