Over thirty old-folks in the Pipeline Community, Paynesville, have benefited ‘free medical checkups, treatments, personal hygiene, environmental cleanness education for sustainable and healthy longevity.’
The ‘free medical assistance,’ were provided by the faith-based World of Life International (WLI) as part of this year’s Flag Day celebrations.
The exercise was held at the WLI Ministry in Paynesville on Monday, August 25, 2025.
WLI provided check-up for illnesses like malaria, flu, diarrhea, typhoid and infectious diseases.
During the routine, sicknesses discovered that were beyond the medical team capacity were referred to other health facilities.
In the medical session, some of the old-folks were called one after another, and asked some medical questions, and later ended with a physical examination. They were given medication following the diagnosis.
In her overview comment, WLI Ageing Support Coordinator, Ms. Rebecca K.G. Nyamndo, expressed appreciation and excitement to the old folks for being part of the exercise.
Madam Nyamndo said the program intends to make the old folks “healthy and strong.”
She said, the initiative was born by the executive director and founder to buttress government effort in health-related area, “since there were no prescribed and accurate national initiative to address illnesses and concerned affecting the old folks.
In her keynote addressed, Madam Yassah Sumo from the Ministry of Health (MoH), encouraged the old folks to do regular medical checkups to enable them maintain a healthy and strong life and longevity.
“When people are getting old, it is similar to the way a child body is not strong, such as the way a person gets older, thereby declined in strength and health. It is therefore, important to do regular medical checkups.”
Madam Sumo warned that early check-up prevents worsening illness, expenditure and death, because they are much better with little medicine that would be administered.
“When you are getting older, it is good to do regular checkups. it will help prevent sickness from overcoming you, because when you go to the hospital sooner, even small medicine can solve your problem. Also, it prevents the sickness from getting worst. Sometimes, you can say this thing is not serious yet, the time you wait for it to get serious, that is the time it brings death and consume more money. On behalf of the beneficiaries, Aloysius Tokpa, expressed appreciation to the team and WLI for the continuous assistance. Tokpa added: “We want to thank you for helping us. We are old people, but you have never forgotten us. We appreciate you for this gesture. We will try even though we are not having money to do our regular checkups, and keep our environment clean to prevent mosquitoes and malaria.”
