Local authorities in River Gee County have announced the start of emergency reconstruction work on the Tienpo Nyonken bridge.
Up to date, the bridge remains a critical crossing point in the Nanee administrative area of Tienpo Statutory District.
The project will deliver a temporary wooden bridge within three weeks to restore travel between River Gee, Sinoe, and Grand Kru counties.
The county Superintendent, Mike Swengbe, confirmed that Homeland Liberia Limited, a Liberian-owned construction company, has been contracted to carry out the work.
The bridge is a major transport link in the Southeast; used daily to convey people, goods and essential services.
The bridge collapsed months ago due to severe flooding and unfavorable weather, cutting off farmers, traders, students and commuters.
Since then, residents have faced disrupted commercial activity, limited access to healthcare and local markets, and unsafe detours through surrounding communities.
Nearly a year ago, Swengbe announced that government had allocated about US$60,000 for the bridge’s reconstruction.
Earlier this year, the Kuncares Foundation, led by Chief Executive Director, Kunkunyon Teh, added US$15,000 to support the temporary rebuild.
The original Tienpo Nyonken bridge was constructed in 2017, by Alexander Poure, Representative of River Gee County Electoral District #1, and served as a vital route for economic and social activity until its collapsed.
County officials said, the new temporary structure to ease transport hardships while longer-term solutions are planned. Residents and local business owners, have welcomed the announcement, expressing optimism that the reconstruction will restore normal travel, boost local trade, and improve connectivity across the region once completed.
