10 For Nimba Lone Seat
The National Elections Commission (NEC) has confirmed the arrival of ballot papers for District #5 by-election.
The by-election is scheduled for Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
The ballot papers arrived in the country on Wednesday, July 30, via the Robert International Airport.
Meanwhile, the commission says 10 contestants for the by-election of a lone representative seat in the county have been confirmed.
NEC’s confirmation came ahead of the by-election scheduled for August 12, 2025 in the district.
The by-election became necessary following the election of the then district representative Samuel G. Kogar to the senate. Kogar replaces the late Nimba County Senator Prince Y. Johnson, who died on November 28, 2024.
Following NEC’s final vetting of the 13 previous candidates, 10 were qualified.
They include, Augustus Karnay Menkoa, running on the ticket of Vision for Liberia Transformation, Joseph Goandeu Wehye, Jr., representing the Liberia People Democratic Party, Cole Williams, Independent, Bories B. Barlea, Independent, while Kortor Sehwongbay Kwagru is running on the ticket of the Movement for Democratic and Reconstruction.
Others are: Jackson Suomie Youh, is on the ticket of the National Democratic Coalition, Abraham Karpo, represents the Liberia Transformation Party, Tarkpor Mambia, Independent, Borkoah C. Miamen, Liberia National Union, and Kamah Madee Wongbay, is on the ticket of Liberia Rebuilding Party.
Though, each of the contestants have promised to peacefully campaign, the process has meanwhile, intensified to the extent that each candidate is holding onto a “stronghold,” assuring voters of development agenda, if elected.
The official campaign process began on July 20, and will end two days to the conduct of the by-election.
Of the 21 voting centers in the district, 15,091 are female registered voters, while 14,732 are males, thus totaling 29,832 registered voters.
The Buuyao Electoral District #5 consists of all amalgamated towns, including Nyor-Butuo, Yao Tahnplay and Lepula in the district, and Blemieplay, Tartuo and Buelay are added amalgamated towns from Twah River Administrative District.
