The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Thomas Fallah, has publicly affirmed that Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon enjoys the full confidence of himself and his legislative colleagues, dismissing reports of an alleged plot to remove the Speaker and Deputy Speaker as false and misleading.
Responding to claims of a legislative scheme aimed at removing the House’s top leadership, Deputy Speaker Fallah said while challenges may exist within the Legislature, there is absolutely no resolution or plan to remove either the Speaker or the Deputy Speaker. He described such reports as misinformation intended to mislead the public.
Fallah, who represents Lofa County Electoral District #1, made the clarification on Monday while appearing on the ELBC State Radio “Super Morning Show.” During the interview, he acknowledged challenges facing the Legislature, including issues related to salary payments, but called for patience, understanding, and collective responsibility among lawmakers.
Defending his colleagues, the Deputy Speaker emphasized that Speaker Koon continues to enjoy the confidence and support of the House, adding that any claims suggesting otherwise are untrue. He noted that leadership on Capitol Hill involves navigating political dynamics and differing leadership styles.
Fallah praised Speaker Koon for his quiet, flexible, and consultative leadership approach, stressing that the Speaker listens to advice and regularly consults with him and other colleagues, a practice he said has helped in resolving issues within the Legislature. He added that the Speaker requires time to learn, grow, and adapt, like any leader.
The Deputy Speaker also underscored the importance of legislative oversight, stressing the need for the Executive Branch to account for its programs and activities as the Legislature prepares to resume its third session on Monday, January 12, 2026.
According to him, the upcoming session will focus on robust oversight, effective representation, and the passage of better laws, while strengthening coordination among the three branches of government for the overall benefit of the Liberian people.
Commenting on the welfare of legislative staffers, Deputy Speaker Fallah noted that with the passage of the national budget, it is anticipated that staff salary improvements will be addressed, recognizing the hard work and dedication of staffers at the Capitol.
He reaffirmed his support for Speaker Koon’s leadership and called for unity, cooperation, and national interest to remain the guiding principles of the Legislature.
