ππ$π.ππ Secured To Aid Flood Victims
The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), with support from partners has secured US$1.5 million dollars to aid flood victims within Montserrado, Margibi, and Grand Bassa Counties. Speaking at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism regular press briefing in Monrovia on Thursday, August 8, 2024, the NDMA Executive Director, Ansu Dolleh, said the World Food Programme (WFP) has mobilized US$1.5 million to aid 5,200 households comprising of 26,000 individuals displaced by floods. Mr. Dolleh narrated that the WFP will also provide emergency food assistance through cash via mobile money to the 5,200 households. The NDMA head stressed that the WFP will leverage data collected by NDMA on the affected households, along with a physical verification exercise to validate the data and gather additional information needed to provide assistance. He stressed that WFP will engage 20 enumerators from both WFP and NDMA to conduct the exercise, supervised by technical staff from both parties, adding, βall logistics and financial arrangements have been completedβ. At the same time, Mr. Dolleh further narrated that to coordinate NDMA response effectively, the institution has activated several clusters responsible for addressing specific needs arising from disaster crisis.Β “These clusters include Communication and Coordination, Health and Safety, Search and Rescue, Shelter, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), each cluster and volunteers are working diligently,β he noted. He said the agency coordinative approach ensures that the needs of affected communities are addressed urgently and comprehensively. Furthering that it is imperative to note that, the NDMA over the time has made significant efforts in re-organizing the coordination mechanism which brought together several networks. Mr. Dolleh added that the NDMA conducted a holistic data collection and assessment of vulnerable communities affected by the floods to respond to humanitarian needs. “NDMA engaged the One UN system to seek support for more than 48,000 flood victims across the three counties β however, there are pending reports from other counties that are not reflected in the 48,000 victims already provided, as I speak now, the department of Risk and Early warning have recorded more than 60,000 victims,” he disclosed.LINA
